Country western music has developed greatly since its humble origins and eventually paved the path for what is now modern rock music. A great number of memorable, talented men have arisen and become country music legends over the years.
Hank Williams and his son Hank Williams Jr. are among two of the most well known names of country music in America. The elder produced a string of hits including “Hey Good Lookin’” and “Your Cheatin’ Heart” before his 1952 death. His son, Hank Williams Jr. picked up the family legacy and has produced a number of hit songs featuring samples of his father’s previous recordings.
Another larger than life personality from country western music roots is “Ring of Fire” singer Johnny Cash, who kept producing hit songs until shortly before his death. Cash’s most well known modern song is “Hurt,” a breathtaking cover of a Nine Inch Nails song. Willie Nelson is best known for his “love” of the government, his staunch support of marijuana, and his songs “Always on My Mind” and “On the Road Again.” Nelson has expanded his horizons to include a duet with rapper Snoop Dogg called “My Medicine.”
Garth Brooks brought a fresh breath of air to country music in the 1990s with a string of hits, including several cover songs. Tim McGraw burst onto the scene shortly after, winning over fans with his amazing voice, lyrics, and charming good looks. Vince Gill has helped to revive faith in love and country’s gospel roots through his lyrics and often collaborates with other artists.
