Some of the most enduring and timeless country songs came from the seventies. That era gave us some of the best singers of country music of all time such as Loretta Lynn. Loretta sang about what she knew, being a coal miners daughter, and put her heart into every song she sang.
Johnny Cash, one of the most beloved country singers of all time, gave us classics like “Ring of Fire” and “Folsom Prison Blues” in the seventies but kept singing until his death in 2003. George Jones who is 1 in charted hit and widely regarded as the greatest living country singer.
Then you have the “Outlaw” style of country music, led by such legendary singer/storytellers as Willie Nelson. Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings. This style and sound has often been emulated but never really copied by anyone else.
Country music in the seventies was sang by people who lived the lives they sang about and gave no excuses as to who and what they were or how they sounded. When most people think of the greatest country songs ever recorded they think of the seventies and people like Loretta, Johnny, Willie, Kris and Waylon. Their sound never forgotten.
